What time do the grounds of Belfast Castle open and close?
The opening hours of Belfast Castle grounds vary through the year. Closing times change as daylight lengthens or shortens. Read the current opening and closing times.

Is it free to visit Belfast Castle and its gardens, or do I need a ticket?
Belfast Castle, including the visitor information centre, is free to visit.
How long does it take to walk up Cave Hill?
There are a number of trails to walk up Cave Hill, of varying lengths and difficulty, including;
- Cavehill Trail is a 4.5 mile (7.2 kilometres) circular walking route. For this route, you need sturdy walking shoes and clothing for inclement weather. The trail takes in McArt’s Fort. The total ascent of the trail is 256 metres and needs a good level of fitness.
- Estate Trail is a 2.4 mile (3.9 kilometres) circular walking route through the woodland. This follows paths on the lower slopes of the country park. The total ascent of the route is 134 metres.
- Castle Trail is a short 0.8 mile (1.3 kilometres) circular trail taking in the gardens in Belfast Castle.

How long does it take to visit Belfast Castle?
For a self-guided walk, along with a visit to the Cave Hill Visitor Information Centre, we would recommend allowing around one hour.
Can I order a taxi if I'm at the castle?
Yes, we have a freephone service available at our reception.
Is there parking at Belfast Castle?
There is free onsite parking at Belfast Castle. The main car park is located at the front of the venue with additional overspill parking also available. There are designated disabled and parent and child spaces. Parking spaces are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Is Belfast Castle dog friendly?
Dogs (except registered assistance dogs) are not allowed inside Belfast Castle, the castle gardens, the adventure playground or inside our coffee shop or restaurant.
Dogs on leads are allowed in the outdoor seated area at our Tavern Coffee Shop. Water bowls are available on request.

Yes, there is a baby-changing facility in the toilets of the Tavern Coffee Shop. A second baby-changing facility is available on the ground floor. Breastfeeding is also welcome at Belfast Castle.
