A Belfast woman has was sentenced at Belfast Magistrates Court on Tuesday 21 January 2025, following her conviction for an offence involving a dog attacking a child.
Belfast City Council took the prosecution against Ashlene Smith of Christian Place, Belfast.
The prosecution was taken after reports that Ms Smith’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog had attacked and injured a 14-year-old girl causing her injury, at Milford Close, Belfast on 3 August 2024.
Ms Smith, who pleaded guilty to the offence, received a 4 month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months and required to pay a compensation order totalling £200 and a further £147 legal and court costs.
Ms Smith was also fined £80 having been convicted of keeping the Staffordshire Bull Terrier without a valid dog licence.
