Queen’s University has said it will create more than 220 jobs as it invests up to £100m in 460 student rooms at three sites.
The accommodation will be built at Laganbank in south Belfast and Dublin Road and Brunswick Street in the city centre.
Belfast is already home to 45,000 full-time students, but Queen’s has said 3,000 more rooms will be needed in the next five years for its attendees alone.
It also claimed there was increased demand from students for high-quality accommodation, with a 5% increase in applications this year.
Queen’s said its £100m, four-year investment would create up to 225 jobs “while transforming the city centre”.
Vice president of students and corporate services Caroline Young added: “We have been aware of and planning for a major increase in demand for student accommodation in recent years, and through this significant investment, we are ensuring we are prepared to respond effectively.

“We know that some parts of south Belfast have experienced very high levels of houses in multiple occupation accommodation and that some students have had poor experiences with landlords.
“So, it is welcome that Queen’s, as a responsible landlord, is working to provide accommodation in other parts of the city.”
