North Star by So Lab

  • Date: Thursday 24 to Friday 25 October
    Belfast Telegraph Building

On Friday 25th October, Solab, a new collective led by Kwame Daniels will orchestrate a city wide spectacle, North Star led by Grammy Award winner, Kaidi Tatham; award-winning poet, Nandi Jola, rising stars Leo Miyagee and Winnie Ama, will take everyone from 1845 Belfast to Belfast 2024 in surround sound. The ambitious live show will feature music, visual art and literature, all deeply rooted in Black music and cultures.

Taking inspiration from Fredrick Douglas, the renowned orator, writer, and abolitionist, who delivered his landmark speech in Belfast, four world-class artists working with four schools will co create a spectacular showcase of music, art and literature, through personal works inspired by his story, philosophy, and connection with the city, rooted in Black culture. Douglass’s words resounded in a united front against slavery, leaving an indelible mark on the city.

Now, in 2024, his statue stands proudly in Rosemary Street, a testament to Belfast's commitment to its history and values, all reflected in music, spoken word, visual art and literature on stage in the iconic Belfast Telegraph Building in a live show embracing creativity, inspired by history, celebrating our people and place.

North Star seizes this occasion with a profound celebration with a live show in October, performed by a stellar lineup including:

Grammy Award winner, Kaidi Tatham; award-winning poet, Nandi Jola, rising stars Leo Miyagee and Winnie Ama , featuring a special commission by acclaimed actor Colin Salmon and Ivor Novello Winner, Hannah Peel.

Audiences will immerse themselves in Music, Visual Art, and Literature, all deeply rooted in Black culture.
