  • Cycling in Belfast

    Cycling is part of our vision for creating a better city – it’s cheaper, greener and gets you more active. We have facilities for BMX bikes at Ormeau Park, Victoria Park, Waterworks and Bridges Urban Sports Park. 

  • Barnett Demesne mountain bike trails and jumps park

    The mountain bike and jumps park at Barnett Demesne is closed for essential maintenance following Storm Darragh.

    Barnett Demesne in south Belfast is home to the city's first mountain bike trails and the only official dirt jump park in Ireland. These facilities were installed as part of our physical investment programme.

    How to get there

    Entrance to the park is through Old Coach Lane, just off Upper Malone Road.

    Take Metro no. 8 A-C from Belfast city centre.

    Take your bike - the trail head is adjacent to the towpath, NCN 9.

    Facilities    

    - 3.5km green trail, which runs alongside the River Lagan and is suitable for beginners and families

    - 3.9km blue trail, complete with three red loop options and more technical features, making it a more challenging run for experienced riders

    - jump park with six lines of jumps, beams and booters, including a range of sizes to test all levels

    There are also toilets, showers (charge of £1 per shower) and car parking available at the nearby Mary Peters Athletics Track

  • Bridges Urban Sports Park

    Bridges Urban Sports Park is Northern Ireland’s first urban sports park and make it a world-class, state-of-the-art facility. 

    The park is only for Parkour, skateboarding, in-line skating and BMX-ing. It is located under the M3 flyover at the junction of Little Patrick Street and Corporation Street (near Custom House Square).

  • Cycling routes in Belfast

    Belfast is becoming increasingly cycle-friendly. Whether you want to cycle for fun or commute to and from work or school, there are plenty of cycle lanes, off-road paths and riverside terraces to try.

  • Comber Greenway

    The Comber Greenway is a seven mile traffic-free section of the National Cycle Network. It runs along the disused Belfast to Comber railway line and provides a tranquil green corridor from Comber to east Belfast with views of Stormont, Scrabo Tower and the Belfast Hills.

    The route starts at:

    • Dee Street
    • CS Lewis Statue at Holywood Arches
    • Bloomfield Walkway
    • Tullycarnet
    • Dundonald

    It finishes at the Belfast Road in Comber. There are several access points along the route.

  • Connswater Community Greenway

    The Connswater Community Greenway is a 9km linear park through East Belfast following the course of the Connswater, Knock and Loop Rivers, connecting open and green spaces along a wildlife corridor. The Greenway runs from Victoria Park to Cregagh Glen and Marsh-wiggle Way/Braniel and there are different access points along the route. 

    Bikes can be hired at the Frank and Honest Belfast Bikes docking station in C.S. Lewis Square.

  • Lagan and Lough Cycle Way

    The Lagan and Lough Cycle Way is a 21 mile traffic-free cycle ride or walk connecting Lisburn, the Lagan Valley, Belfast (with links to the city centre) and Jordanstown. It is mostly level and is suitable for novice and family cyclists of all ages and abilities.
