A number of organisations have been appointed to deliver key projects as part of council’s £15.1m Belfast PEACEPLUS Local Community Action Plan. The plan is funded by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

The partners appointed include:

  • People 1st which will be delivering the Employability Language Up project, which aims to assist individuals from minority ethnic communities, in acquiring essential citizenship, language, and employability skills;
  • Active Communities Network - delivering the Sport for Peace project, designed to build partnerships and connect communities through sport;
  • NICVA and community partners - delivering the Community Empowerment project to empower communities to help shape the future of their local area through participation and overseeing local initiatives;
  • Streetbeat Youth Project - delivering Strand 3 of the Inspiring Future Belfast Youth Empowerment project, which seeks to deliver good relations and leadership training to 16 to 18 year-olds across the city and promote peacebuilding;
  • ArtsEkta - delivering the Shared Built Heritage element of the Multiculturalism to Interculturalism project and
  • Féile an Phobail - delivering the Festivals and Flagship capacity building and events element of the Multiculturalism to Interculturalism project.

Further appointments of PEACEPLUS delivery partners will take place in April.

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Micky Murray, said: “I’m delighted to announce some of the partners that have been appointed to deliver important, innovative PEACEPLUS projects that will continue to build on peace and reconciliation in the city.

“Our PEACEPLUS projects will engage over 17,000 people reflecting the city’s commitment to fostering good relations.

“The Belfast PEACEPLUS Community Local Action Plan further complements the city’s community plan, Belfast Agenda, in its mission to make Belfast a compassionate, inclusive city - celebrating different cultures and diversity and delivering thriving, peaceful communities.”

SEUPB Chief Executive Gina McIntyre said: ”Belfast City Council’s Co-Designed Local Community PEACEPLUS Action Plan will have a transformative impact by addressing specific needs in Belfast.

“All local authorities within Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland have been allocated a PEACEPLUS budget to undertake a programme of local investment to address local challenges within their areas, working in conjunction with residents and organisations.

“This approach ensures that plans are targeted at local level, addressing a range of issues including regeneration, promoting positive relations, and championing diversity.”
