At Belfast Magistrates' Court today, Tuesday 22 October, Café Parisien was fined after pleading guilty to two food safety offences.

The first charge involved serving food that was unsafe for certain consumers. The second charge was for failing to ensure proper procedures were in place in their food safety management system to provide allergen-free food.

Café Parisien Limited was fined £2,500 for both offences, ordered to pay £523 in costs, and also required to pay £500 in compensation to the individual involved.

The prosecution was brought by Belfast City Council following a complaint that a customer suffered an anaphylactic reaction after consuming food containing milk from Café Parisien. The individual, who has a milk allergy, was hospitalised due to the reaction.
