Belfast City Council is bringing an exciting and educational theatre experience to local schools to help young people understand the long-term impact of rubbish on our environment.
Adapted and performed by Cre8 Theatre, Terrible Tales of Trash is a brand-new interactive show that explores how waste has been a problem throughout history - not just a modern-day issue. The team will visit 30 primary schools across Belfast, reaching around 4,000 Key Stage 2 pupils (Primary 5-7).
Through lively storytelling and historical reenactments, students will meet characters from different time periods, including cavemen, Ancient Greeks, medieval figures, and those from World War II, who share how they dealt with waste in their day. The show highlights not only the visible mess caused by rubbish but also the serious impact it has on wildlife and the planet.
Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Micky Murray, said: "We want to inspire young people to think differently about waste and their responsibility to the environment. This creative and interactive show will help children understand the history of waste and encourage them to take action in their own communities.
This initiative is part of our commitment to environmental education, ensuring that future generations understand the importance of waste reduction and protecting the planet.”
