  • Environmental Litter Friend

Our Environmental Litter Friend (ELF) returns to nursery schools in December 2025. Ellie will promote a positive environmental message in a festive and fun way to children. Ellie will also be spreading some Christmas cheer through stories and song, reminding our young citizens to keep Belfast clean and tidy.

Sessions with Ellie are free and available to Belfast-based nursery schools with children aged three to four years old. Sessions run Monday to Friday from 1 December to 19 December at:

    • 9.30am
    • 10.30am
    • 11.30am

Sessions need to be booked and are available first come, first served. We have a strict one session per school policy.

If you work in a nursery or think your child’s nursery would be interested in a visit by Ellie, ask the nursery to email [email protected] to book their session.

  • Terrible Tales of Trash

Currently this show is booked out. If you would like more information on other workshops and initiatives on the topic of litter and waste, email the Environmental Education Outreach team at [email protected].

Targeted at Key Stage 2 (Primary 5 to 7), 'Terrible Tales of Trash' has been created to help young people understand that rubbish and waste has always been a problem in our world and that it’s not just a modern-day issue. The show will explore the effect rubbish and waste has on our planet. Not only does it make the place look messy and uncared for, but it can also damage the lives and homes of the animals and wildlife we share this planet with.

Throughout the show you will discover how our ancestors dealt with their waste, what ideas they came up with and whether we have learnt anything along the way.Characters from different time periods such as cavemen, ancient Greeks, medieval times, and World War II will be brought back to life to explain how they dealt with their waste.
