Tourism currently attracts almost 9.5 million visitors to Belfast each year and contributes over £430 million to the local economy. This in turn supports over 9,300 full time jobs. The Belfast Integrated Tourism Strategy 2015-2020 sets out priorities and activities to help us double the value of tourism to £870 million per year by 2020.
The strategy has been developed following extensive consultation with tourism partners and stakeholders. It aims to focus everyone’s efforts around priority issues. The improvements that it suggests will be delivered in partnership with all organisations that have an interest in increasing tourism into the city.
The main improvements identified are:
- to enhance the city’s reputation through better marketing, access to the city, improved services for visitors and better events
- to strengthen the tourism sector through quality assurance, training and by developing new products and experiences for visitors.
