Robinson Centre regeneration
We’re investing £20 million in a new state-of-the-art leisure facility in outer east Belfast. A site options appraisal has identified the site of the current Robinson Centre as the preferred location for the new development.
Unique selling point - aquatic centre
Following community consultation and advice from a range of industry experts, we have taken the decision that the new centre will focus largely on wet provision and will be an aquatic centre for the city.
In addition to extensive wet provision, the new facility will also offer a range of dry facilities such as a state-of-the-art fitness suite, sports hall and studios.
The agreed facilities are:
- 25 metre by eight lane gala pool with 250 spectator seats
- learner pool with movable floor and diving provision
- confidence water for small children and toddlers
- 140 station fitness suite
- exercise studios
- spin studio
- sports hall
- community facility
- multipurpose room
- range of outdoor provision including a five-a-side pitch
Following analysis of community consultation feedback on designs for the new facility we submitted a planning application for the development in November 2016. Planning permission was granted on 11 April 2017. Construction work onsite is ongoing and we aim to open the new facility opening in summer 2019.
