Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

Our parks remain open to allow people to take daily exercise in their local park. But it is very important that everyone observes strict social distancing when using our parks.

Social distancing in parks

To help you follow social distancing, we’re introducing stencilled messages in some of our parks. Our messages will remind you to keep a safe distance from other people while using our parks. A safe distance means staying at least two metres from everyone else in the park.

We’re also trialling a one-way system in Victoria Park in east Belfast and in the Waterworks in north Belfast. Depending on feedback and review, we might introduce a similar system in other parks.

Dog walking

Please remember to keep your dog on a lead at all times. This ensures social distancing can be observed. Don’t forget, you are responsible for picking up after your pet. We need your help to keep our streets and parks clean and safe for everyone.

Car parking

From Wednesday 27 May, all car parks at our parks are open to the public.

Park opening hours

Our parks remain open during coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic except Bridges Urban Sports Park. This park is closed.

If visiting your local park, you must follow social distancing guidance

Orangefield Park and Victoria Park are open 24/7. The rest of our parks open at 7.30am and close at the following times throughout the year.

If a park contains a 3G pitch, park gates may remain open while the pitches are booked for play. Users must leave the park promptly after play finishes on the 3G pitches as the park gates will be locked within 15 minutes.

Park events

Find out what events we have planned in our parks

Barbecues in our parks

You can't barbecue in any of our parks, with the exception of Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park where we have a designated barbecue area.

Dog enclosures

This dedicated open green space with secure perimeter allows dog walkers to safely let their dogs run off the lead and enjoy agility equipment at the site.

There is also a selection of picnic seating areas.

This is available at Grove Playing Fields

Defibrillators

We have installed public access defibrillators for park users at the following locations:

Blanchflower Playing Fields
Boucher Playing Fields
Cherryvale Playing Fields
Falls Park
Grove Playing Fields
Henry Jones Playing Fields
Loughside Playing Fields
Musgrave Park
Orangefield Park
Ormeau Park

Shore Road Playing Fields

A defibrillator can be used to help someone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. It can deliver a shock to the heart to correct a chaotic heart rhythm. The earlier this shock is given, the better the person’s chance of survival.

How to find

The defibrillators are externally situated in key coded cabinets and are accessible during normal park opening hours. In the event that you need to access the defibrillator to assist someone suffering from a suspected cardiac arrest, then call 999 to request an ambulance. The ambulance service will give you the cabinet access code once they have confirmed that they are dealing with a genuine cardiac arrest.

How to use

The defibrillators in our parks are simple to use, the machine gives clear spoken instructions and can be used effectively and safely by people who have had no prior training. However if you are administering a defibrillator to someone in cardiac arrest, it is preferable that you should also start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately. Further information on defibrillators can be obtained from the Resuscitation Council (UK).

More information

If you would like further information on our defibrillator programme, please contact the Corporate Health and Safety Unit on 028 9032 0202.
