Join the Lord Mayor, Councillor John Finucane along with Cool FM’s Melissa Riddell and John Kearns and TV favourites PJ Masks as we kick off the festive season with the city’s annual Christmas Lights Switch-On. An evening of musical fun awaits with special performances from Mr Hullabaloo, the Shelf-ish little Elves by Christina Nelson and the Fortwilliam Musical Society before the big switch-on.
All tickets for the switch on event have now been allocated.
If you secured tickets online don’t forget you must print off your tickets in advance or have the QR code ready to scan on your mobile device on arrival to site. When you receive your confirmation email please ensure that you click through to the barcode for scanning before attending the event for ease of entry. Email confirmation will not be enough. Access to the general event site is via three main colour coded entrances:
- red ticket access via Donegall Square West-Wellington Place only
- green ticket access via Donegall Place only
- blue ticket access via Donegall Square East-Chichester Street only
Access to the accessible viewing platforms is as follows:
- Accessible viewing platform 1 ticket access via Donegall Square West-Wellington Place
- Accessible viewing platform 2 ticket access via Donegall Square East-Chichester Street

Due to the switch-on event, traffic diversions will be in operation in and around City Hall from 2pm-11pm on Saturday 16 November. There is an exception to Translink which will operate some services until 5pm on event day.
There will be a complete closure to all vehicular traffic at 5pm. Affected roads are:
- Wellington Place
- Donegall Square North
- Donegall Square West
- Chichester Street
- Donegall Place
- Upper Arthur Street
There is no parking allocated for this event. Please use city centre car parks, on street parking and public transport. Limited parking restrictions will be in place in Donegall Place, Donegall Square North and Upper Arthur Street from 11pm on Friday 15 November until 11pm on Saturday 16 November.
The taxi rank on Donegall Square North will relocate to Donegall Square East (beside Ulster Bank) from 2pm on Saturday 16 November and therefore no buses will operate from Donegall Square East from this time. Donegall Square West will close to private coaches from 2pm and Donegall Place will close from 2pm to all vehicles except Translink services.

The award-winning Belfast Christmas Market will also be making a return to the city. The Market will open its doors at 12 noon on Saturday 16 November and will stay until 6pm on Sunday 22 December, with a unique offering of local and continental tasty food, sweet treats, wonderful gifts and crafts.
Don’t forget to post your child’s Christmas wishes to the North Pole via our post box beside Santa's grotto in the market. Each child who posts their letter with a return address before Monday 16 December will receive a response from Santa himself.
