Alleygates in Belfast

Alleygates help to reduce antisocial behaviour, burglaries and fear of crime in areas of Belfast where they have been installed. As well as making neighbourhoods feel safer, they're also helping to build a cleaner environment.

Proposed new alleygates

We are proposing new alleygates for some streets in Belfast. By erecting gates at entrances to the back and side of certain streets, there will be restricted vehicle access to the alleys.The alleygate proposals are contained in a draft order. We issued a notice of intention in all areas affected. If you want to object, we can only accept written and signed objections by post.

Streets and roads affected by new alleygates

We propose to make an order entitled the Belfast City Council Traffic Regulation Order 2024 Holylands. The purpose of the order is to prohibit the use by vehicles and pedestrians of these streets in Belfast. 

• To the rear of numbers 2 to 46 Magdala Street, numbers 81 to 117 University Street and to the sides of number 2a Magdala Street and number 1a Sandhurst Road
• To the rear of numbers 8 to 42 Fitzroy Avenue, numbers 104 to 138 University Avenue and to the side of number 2 Dudley Street
• To the rear of numbers 36 to 44 Agincourt Avenue, numbers 1 to 17 Curzon Street, numbers 2 to 20 Collingwood Avenue and to the sides of number 1 Curzon Street and number 2 Collingwood Avenue
• To the rear of numbers 46 to 58 Agincourt Avenue, numbers 1 to 19 Collingwood Avenue, numbers 46 to 66 Damascus Street and to the sides of number 1 Collingwood Avenue and number 44 Damascus Street
• To the rear of numbers 60 to 70 Agincourt Avenue, numbers 45 to 67 Damascus Street, numbers 50 to 74 Jerusalem Street and to the sides of number 45 Damascus Street and number 50 Jerusalem Street
