  • Belfast’s festive season

    This year’s Christmas season began on Saturday 16 November with the opening of the Christmas Market and our Christmas Lights Switch-on.

    The celebrations continue during the festive season, with free events at 2 Royal Avenue’s Winter’s Den, plus a selection of festive activity in the city centre and beyond.

  • Christmas shopping

    Retailers are ready for the festive season with extended opening hours. The opening times for some shops over the festive season are:

    • Monday 9 to Friday 13 December from 9am to 9pm
    • Monday 16 December to Friday 20 December from 9am to 9pm
    • Saturday 21 December from 9am to 7pm
    • Christmas Eve from 9am to 5pm
    • Boxing Day from 9am to 6pm
    • New Year’s Eve from 9am to 5pm
    • New Year’s Day from 12 noon to 6pm

    Some stores may open earlier on Sundays for browsing.

  • Public transport in Belfast

    Most of us produce extra waste over the festive period, so it is important to know what goes in your bin and what you can recycle, including Christmas trees, wrapping paper, crackers and Christmas cards.

    Christmas is a very busy period, and it’s important to keep yourself safe while enjoying the festivities.
