Leisure Employment Academies
The Leisure Employment Academy have been designed in partnership with GLL, who operate the 14 leisure centres across Belfast, to provide the skills and qualifications to those who are currently out of work and do not have the qualifications and experience normally needed to apply.
This will support the recruitment of over 100 new jobs with GLL that have been created through Council’s Leisure Transformation Programme, a £105-million investment to improve leisure facilities and services across the city.
There are 40 spaces on the Leisure Employment Academies, and these academies will cover training, qualifications and employability support for a range of part-time and full-time vacancies both permanent and casual including Recreation Assistant and Swim Teacher.
Before applying for a place on a Leisure Employment Academy you will get the opportunity to speak with GLL, through job insights sessions and site visits, to gain an understanding of what the jobs entail and the terms and conditions of employment.
If you are allocated a place, you will then take part in a three-week employment academy to give you the skills, employability support and qualifications needed to begin a career with GLL. If you successfully complete the employment academy, you are then guaranteed an interview with GLL.
Depending on the type of role you are interested in, the training can include:
- Customer Service
- NPLQ (lifeguarding qualification)
- Emergency First Aid
- Key employability skills such as interview techniques.
Every participant that completes the employment academy is guaranteed a job interview for a role that best suits their circumstances.
The Leisure Employment Academy is open to anyone living in the Belfast City Council area currently out of work or working less than 16 hours a week. This includes people who are participating on a European Social Funded programme.
