Childminding Self-Employment Academy

The Childminding Self-Employment Academy is a new training initiative that aims to provide support and mentoring for 30 people who would like to become a registered childminder.

What’s involved?

Participants will take part in a four-day training programme to give them the skills needed to begin a career in childminding. The programme will also provide sector specific self-employment advice and guidance.

The academy will include:

  • an awareness workshop
  • mandatory and certified training (Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding)
  • one year’s membership with the Northern Ireland Childminding Association (NICMA)
  • support with the childminding registration process, and
  • one-to-one mentoring and business support.

The academy is open to anyone living in the Belfast City Council area currently out of work or working less than 16 hours a week. This includes people who are on a current European Social Funded programme.
