Childminding Self-Employment Academy

The Childminding Self-Employment Academy is a new training initiative that aims to provide support and mentoring for 30 people who would like to become a registered childminder.

What’s involved?

Participants will take part in a four-day training programme to give them the skills needed to begin a career in childminding. The programme will also provide sector specific self-employment advice and guidance.

The academy will include:

  • an awareness workshop
  • mandatory and certified training (Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding)
  • one year’s membership with the Northern Ireland Childminding Association (NICMA)
  • support with the childminding registration process, and
  • one-to-one mentoring and business support.

Eligibility

The academy is open to anyone living in the Belfast City Council area currently out of work or working less than 16 hours a week. This includes people who are on a current European Social Funded programme.

How to apply

You must attend one of our awareness events below to be considered for a place on the academy. These sessions will:

  • give you information on the skills needed for a career in childminding, and
  • give you the chance to speak to childcare and business management tutors.

To register, please fill in this online form

The closing date for registrations is 12 noon on Friday 18 January 2019.
