Belfast through work insights and skills for employment (BeWise)
We recognise that in order for our city to grow, it is vital that we support our young people and our local businesses. We are working in partnership with the Department for Economy’s (DfE) Connect to Success portal, and introducing the BeWise initiative.
A 12-month council plan, BeWise will be working with young people, educational centres and employers, and will provide participating work experience students with a greater insight into the world of work. It will support career choices as well as developing our employer engagement, and assisting in the successful placement of students in exciting roles.
The BeWise initiative will support and develop careers information, and provide experience-based opportunities with our city’s employers.
Additionally, we will work closely with all employers, who engage with this programme, ensuring they too have access to the correct information in relation to work experience placements and support, as well as being given the opportunity to gain access to our ever-growing pool of young and talented citizens.
As an employer, you can provide support by:
- providing work experience opportunities
- offering site visits
- helping with mock interview experience
- provide training for event and speech opportunities.
As part of the programme, the council’s Economic Development Unit will work closely with career advisors and teachers, across the city, securing exciting work experience placements for our young people.
