Lord Mayor of Belfast appeals to members of the public to stay at home

30 Mar 2020
The Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Daniel Baker has appealed to members of the public to stay at home and not make journeys unless absolutely essential.

“Once again I’m appealing for people to listen to the advice to stay at home and save lives. At the moment our parks are still open, but that does not mean people should travel to our parks; non-essential journeys are not permitted,” said Councillor Baker.

“If you do have a park on your doorstep, and you’re using it for daily exercise, then please ensure that you and your family observe social distancing - and if the park is busy, rethink your options and go elsewhere. We all have a duty to stay well and help prevent the spread of this virus and reduce the pressures on our health workers.”

He added: “I would also appeal to parents: please know where your children are. These are not school holidays. Young people should not be leaving the house and roaming the streets in groups. The advice applies to everyone, there are no exceptions and we all have our part to play.

“These are challenging times for us all, but now is the time for communities to pull together and support each other through this. We are all in this together.”
