No Place for Hate conference takes place at City Hall

An event took place at City Hall on Thursday 27 February to look at the rising issue of online hate crime.
The event, hosted in association with the Belfast Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), focussed on online hate crime and featured an interactive question and answer session with a panel of leading professionals.
The event highlighted Judge Marrinan’s Hate Crime Legislation Review which is currently open for the public to consult on. Judge Marrinan spoke about his consultation paper, the problem of online hate crime and also freedom of speech online.
Panellists included Chara Bakalis, Oxford Brookes University; Paul Giannasi; National Police Hate Crime Advisor, Mark Hamilton, PSNI Deputy Chief Constable; along with Judge Desmond Marrinan, Head of the Independent Review of Hate Crime Legislation in NI.
A question and answer session was also facilitated by Aisling Twomey, LGBT Advocacy Officer for The Rainbow Project.
The conference was attended by over 250 members of the public.
