Belfast welcomes New York delegation
24 Sep 2019
Belfast City Council has welcomed The American-Irish Legislators Society to the city. The delegation, which includes prominent politicians and lawyers, is led by President of the Society, The Honorable Michael Cusick, a New York State Assembly Member.
They’re here to review the state of play with the Peace Process, the economy and investment and will be networking with a range of city leaders, including the business sector.
The Society is committed to promoting awareness of Irish culture, ties between Ireland and New York, and fellowship among legislators of Irish descent or with an interest in Ireland or the American-Irish community.
Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Peter McReynolds, who hosted the group’s first engagement at Belfast City Hall said: “We’re delighted to meet with our friends here in Belfast – and to have the opportunity to showcase not only the impressive recent positive developments in our city, but also our ambitious plans for investment, including the Belfast Region City Deal. It’s also a valuable opportunity to share news of the global reputation which we’re rapidly developing in the knowledge and digital economies, in areas such as finance, e-commerce, cyber security and of course the creative industries.
“We’ve been voted number one for business friendliness in mid-sized and small global cities – and we’re now the number one destination for new software development projects in Europe. It’s an opportune time to share these messages with our friends in the US and to encourage further collaboration and investment.”
