Run-away success at Belfast City Council’s Primary Schools Cross Country Championships
14 May 2019
Hundreds of school kids from across Belfast descended on Ormeau Park on Thursday 9 May to compete in the finals of Belfast City Council’s Primary Schools Cross Country Championships.
In challenging windy conditions, Cole Mullan of Ben Madigan Prep and Emer McKee of St.Joesph’s Primary School celebrated alongside their classmates and teachers as they each raced home to take the top individual prizes in the boys and girls races.
It was double celebrations for Emer’s school, St.Joesph’s PS as their boys’ team took home the top team prize followed closely by St Bride’s PS and Inchmarlo. Top girls’ team went to Stranmillis PS with Strandtown PS and Our Lady of Lourdes taking second and third place.
In the open section, Aimee Lowe from St. Joesph’s Slate Street won the girls’ race while Holy Evangelists took home the top team title and in the boys’ race, Tye Brady raced home to win the individual prize while his school, Holy Trinity PS won the overall team event as well.
The top six boys and girls teams and top 25 individuals (not in top 6 team) will now move on to compete in the Inter Area cross country final later this month.
